Labour Party Crisis: Factional Leader Okafor Quits, Blames Peter Obi

The Labour Party (LP) plunged deeper into crisis Thursday as factional national chairman Callistus Okafor announced his departure, citing unresolved leadership disputes and disappointment with the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

At a press conference in Abuja, Okafor said he and his faction were defecting to Team Wazobia Nigeria, a non-partisan movement, claiming to exit with five million supporters.

He accused Obi of failing to address the party’s internal rifts and backing embattled chairman Julius Abure despite corruption warnings. “If he can’t govern the Labour Party, he can’t govern Nigeria,” Okafor stated.

He ruled out returning to the PDP and said the APC now appears more politically attractive.
