
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – The family of former President Muhammadu Buhari has announced his passing this afternoon in a private clinic in London. He was 82.
The statement released by presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu reads:
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, was undergoing extended medical care in the UK prior to his passing.
Known for his strong anti-corruption stance, his “Change” agenda, and his leadership through periods of economic hardship and national security crises, Buhari leaves behind a complex legacy in Nigerian history.
