Edo State: Lawmakers passes 2015 Appropriation Bill

The Edo State House of Assembly has passed the year 2015 Appropriation bill of N159, 348,802,916, indicating an increase of N3 billion over the earlier proposed N156 bn presented by Governor Adams Oshiomhole on September 23 to parliament for consideration and passage.

The appropriation bill has a capital expenditure of N88, 672, 249, 800 and a recurrent expenditure of N70, 726, 553, 116. The passage followed the presentation of the report of the committee on Appropriation and Budget Monitoring by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Peter Aliu to parliament for consideration at the committee of the whole.

The one-point recommendation of the report directed that the 2015 Appropriation bill be given consideration ahead of its passage. Consequently parliament however resolved into the committee of supply through an application by Hon. Phillip Shaibu The Majority Leader, having suspended section 55 (2)(17) of the House Rules and section 98 of the amended 1999 constitution to consider the Appropriation bill.

At the committee of supply, parliament approved the appropnation of N88, 672, 249, 800 billion for capital expenditure under schedule one of the appropriation to be appropriated from the consolidated revenue funds while N70, 726, 553, 116 to be appropriated from the considered revenue fund under schedule 2 of the year 2015 Appropriation bill as recurrent expenditure.

The year 2015 Appropriation bill was however given its third reading by the Clerk of the House while awaiting the ascent of the Governor.
