ZAMORA, SPAIN — July 3, 2025
Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota, 28, has died in a car accident alongside his brother, fellow footballer André Silva. Spanish authorities suspect a blown tire caused the vehicle to veer off the A‑52 motorway and ignite.
Jota was a key figure at Liverpool FC, scoring 65 goals since his 2020 arrival from Wolves. He helped the club win the 2024–25 Premier League, as well as domestic cups. Internationally, he earned 49 caps and won two UEFA Nations League titles with Portugal.
He had married Rute Cardoso just 11 days earlier and leaves behind three young children.
Liverpool FC, UEFA, and the football world mourn the sudden loss of a player known for his tenacity, humility, and heart.
“He will never walk alone,” said former manager Jürgen Klopp.
