On May 22, 2025, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced a nationwide reduction of ₦15 per litre in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. This price slash is effective immediately and is part of the refinery’s commitment to easing the economic burden on Nigerians.
The new prices vary slightly by region:
Lagos: ₦875 per litre
South-West: ₦885 per litre
North-West & North-Central: ₦895 per litre
South-East, South-South, and North-East: ₦905 per litre
The refinery attributed the price cut to its recent “naira-for-crude” agreement, which allows it to purchase crude oil using the Nigerian currency rather than foreign exchange, thereby lowering production and distribution costs.
Distribution of the newly priced petrol is being handled by key partners such as MRS, Ardova (AP), Heyden, Optima Energy, Techno Oil, and Hyde Energy, who are expected to comply with the revised pricing structure.
Consumers are advised to buy from authorized stations and report any price gouging. The Dangote Group states that the refined fuel offers high performance and environmental safety, further enhancing its value proposition for consumers across Nigeria.
