ABUJA — The Nigeria Police Force has identified and summoned a group of officers caught on camera extorting motorists, following widespread outrage over a viral video posted on social media.

The footage, which emerged on Monday, shows a police officer allegedly demanding ₦5,000 or five litres of fuel from drivers unable to present their Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) documents. The clip sparked immediate condemnation from Nigerians, reigniting concerns about police corruption and abuse of power.

In response, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), describing the officers’ conduct as “utterly condemned.”

“This action is utterly condemned. The officers have been identified and summoned to Force Headquarters for necessary action,” Adejobi wrote.

“We will not tolerate any act of indiscipline or unprofessionalism. We will update the public on our decisions as soon as possible.”

The identities of the officers involved have not yet been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether they will face disciplinary proceedings, suspension, or dismissal.

This latest incident adds to growing scrutiny of the police’s handling of public trust and accountability in the wake of multiple cases of misconduct recorded in recent years. The Nigeria Police Force has pledged to act decisively and transparently in addressing the situation.

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has said that more influential people will be arrested soon.

According to him, “more influential Nigerians are on the radar of the EFCC and, in the coming weeks, they would have their days in court and Nigerians will be kept fully abreast of the results of the Commission’s investigations”.

Mr. Magu made this assertion in Abuja on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at a meeting with online media practitioners and broadcast media managers.

He stated that the essence of the meeting was to solicit media support and understanding to deepen the fight against fraud, corruption and economic crimes. He asked for advice and suggestions in effectively propagating the war against graft.

“Apart from bringing corrupt public officers to justice, we are determined, in line with the stance of the current administration, to send an unmistakable message to everyone, that no Nigerian shall be regarded as being above the law or treated as a sacred cow as far as the fight against corruption is concerned.

“The EFCC needs you; Nigeria needs your critical support if we are to make any headway in this important campaign against corruption. My plea for your support is underscored by my understanding that the forces which we are battling are powerful and some of them may want to use all platforms of the media to distract and derail us. If and when they come to you, please allow the ethics of your profession, your conscience and overriding national interest to be your guide”, Magu said.

The EFCC boss explained that he has re-ordered the priorities of the EFCC and he finds inspiration in the unbending will of the President to fight corruption.

He added that the judiciary has responded with some practical steps in the form of the designation of selected courts to try EFCC cases.

When asked about the perceived unbalance nature of the arrests made so far, Magu responded by saying “Such accusations have come up a lot, but we work with petitions before us. In fact, I am eager and waiting for something from the other side, but nothing has come so far,” he said.

The Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has said that the Commission will leave no stone unturned in the effort to recover public funds that have been stolen in the guise of arms procurement in Nigeria.

Magu, who stated that the Commission was on top of the ongoing investigation, added that all the culprits in the arms procurement scandal would be brought to justice.

Speaking at the commemoration of the International Anti-corruption Day which has as theme, ‘‘Break the Corruption Chain’’ on Wednesday, December 9 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, he said: ‘‘Corruption is like a chain whose effect impacts various aspects of the society, undermines democracy and the rule of law, distorts markets, erodes quality of life, leads to human rights violations and fans the embers of terrorism and other threats to human security.’’

Magu, who said the Commission had resolved to break the corruption chain in a fair, accountable and transparent manner, also stated that the Commission had so far investigated a total of 1,881 cases within 2015 alone.

According to him, “Out of this figure, 280 cases were filed in courts and 78 convictions were secured. In this period also, eight interim and two final forfeiture orders were handed down by various courts on applications brought by the Commission”.

The EFCC boss further added that he had put in place machinery to sanitise the Commission internally.

He also expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for creating an enabling environment for the Commission to carry out its mandate, adding that he would undertake institutional reforms to increase the Commission’s capacity to fight corruption.

He, therefore, urged civil service organizations as well as other partners to join hands with the Commission in the anti-corruption fight.

‘‘Our common resolve is far stronger than the challenges we face in the fight against corruption. I call on you to embrace the EFCC’s public enlightenment campaigns, the activities of our Zero Tolerance Clubs in tertiary institutions and our inter-faith initiatives because in this effort to break the corruption chain, no man is an island and only when we work together can we make a difference.’’

Earlier, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, said corruption had disastrous impacts on development when funds meant for social amenities were diverted by public office holders for their personal use.

Ban Ki-moon, who was represented on the occasion, added that corruption could exacerbate violence and insecurity.

‘‘It is time to deliver a clear message around the world that rejects corruption and embraces the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance. This will benefit communities and countries; and it will help to usher in a better future for all,’’ he added.

In his remark, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, BPSR, Dr. Joe Abah, called for the enhancement of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB.

He further stated that the newly introduced zero- based budgeting would ensure discipline in the implementation of budgets.

Also, Lilian Ekeanyanwu, representing the Technical Unit on Governance and Anti-Corruption Reforms, TUGAR, urged the anti-corruption community to take advantage of the positive body language emanating from the Presidency.

“We must hit the ground running. We must have a national strategy to bring awareness about the issue of corruption and find methods to curb the malaise, while keeping the populace involved,” she said.

The Deputy Chief Mission of the United States Embassy, Maria E. Brewer, in her remark, stated that corruption could undermine institutions and slow development of any nation.

She said that the United States was ready to partner with Nigeria in the fight against corruption.

This year’s anti-corruption day was organised by the Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT), the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). It holds on December 9, every year.

In attendance at the event, which featured a debate on corruption elimination between students of Light Way Academy and Model Secondary School Maitama, Abuja, were participants from the Budget Office, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission, ICPC, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, TUGAR, Bureau of Public Procurement, Corporate Affairs Commission, Public Complaints Commission, the Nigeria Police, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Finance, among others.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has declared a staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Joseph Tony Ogah, wanted for defrauding the Federal Government of N36.2 million.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the Commission’s spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, Ogah, an indigene of Idah, Kogi State, was part of a crime syndicate that defrauded the Federal Ministry of Environment.

Preliminary findings by ICPC revealed that the syndicate used a company called Soft Alliance Disco, Limited to pay huge salary arrears totaling N36, 194, 636.00 to fictitious staff on the payment platform of the Ministry of Environment.

Ogah, 38 years old, allegedly, in connivance with the others perpetrated and benefited from the fraud as N9.4 million was paid into his account with the United Bank for Africa (UBA). A statement of accounts obtained from UBA revealed that the money was drawn from the Ministry of Environment and paid into the account (1006521816) belonging to Ogah.

The Commission, upon the findings requested Mr. Ogah to appear before it and answer questions regarding the transfer of money from another Ministry into his account, but he failed to do so.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture was requested on several occasions through letters to compel him to appear before ICPC but responses to the letters show that Ogah has absconded from his duty post for over three months now.

The Ministry, in response to the allegation and his failure to report to work, has stopped the payment of his salary and other entitlements since July 2015. Ogah is currently at large which has prompted the Commission to declare him wanted for fraud. Dark-complexioned Ogah’s last known address was Road 121, House 24, Gwarinpa Housing Estate, Abuja.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has recovered and returned the sum of 10, 540 Euros to a polish victim of Internet love scam. The victim, simply identified as Jamina, was allegedly duped 40,000 Euros by the suspect, Gabriel Oseremen Xavi who operates a fake Facebook account with the name, Collins Page.

The suspect was traced to Benin City, Edo State, where he was arrested by EFCC operatives following a petition by the victim.

Speaking on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Belgium Embassy, Abuja during the presentation of the sum of 10,540 Euro recovered from the suspected Internet fraudster, Ibrahim Lamorde, Chairman of EFCC, charged Western diplomats to sensitize their citizens against Internet love scam.

Lamorde, who also urged them to focus more on lonely elderly people who have been found to be easy prey, added that “All the assets acquired by the suspect from the proceeds of the crime will be disposed off at the conclusion of trail, and the money returned to the victim.”

The high point of the occasion was the presentation of the money to the Belgian Ambassador, Mr. Stephane De Loecker and his Polish counterpart, Mr. Andrzej Dycha, by Lamorde
Expressing his gratitude, De Loecker, thanked the Nigerian government as well as the EFCC for what he described as ‘its commitment to curbing Internet scams.’’ He remarked that it was his first time of witnessing the restitution of a victim of scam by any law enforcement agency and urged the EFCC not to rest on her oars.

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibarhim Lamorde has promised to build a robust relationship with the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, NLRC, in fighting the menace of lottery scam and other unwholesome practices in the lottery sector.

Lamorde gave the assurance on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 while signing a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the NLRC on ways to effectively combat fraud in the lottery sector in Nigeria.

The EFCC boss assured that, the Commission would spare no effort towards cleaning up the industry of cheats and illegal lottery operators. “We will do our best to bring violators of laws to justice”, Lamorde said.

According to him, under the new agreement, “the Commission will make available its operatives with respect to enforcement of the National Lottery Act, in the area of training, investigation and prosecution, so as to have a joint team to clean up the system for the good of the country”.

Lamorde opined that, there was a need to appoint focal persons to ease collaboration between the two agencies.

In his remark, NLRC Director General, Adolphus Joe Ekpe, noted that, the essence of the MoU was to fashion out areas of cooperation and collaboration between EFCC and NLRC with a view to tackling financial crimes in relation to lottery activities.

He expressed concern over the increasing rate of illegal operators of lottery saying, “some people have turned Lottery to gambling, fraud and economic crime platforms. For those of us in Lottery Commission, we have been given several names like chacha and all sorts. We are not deterred. In fact, this is why this collaboration with EFCC becomes imperative”.

According to Ekpe, “lottery business is a tool for job creation, wealth redistribution and national development”.

The NLRC boss thanked EFCC for its commitment to the war against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria and expressed belief that the collaboration between the two agencies would help stamp out illegal lottery operators from the industry.

A dead man called Abubakar Shekau said, “We announce our allegiance to the rabid Takfiri Caliph … and will hear and obey him in times of difficulty and prosperity,” and the spell was cast, the purple smoke wafted out of the hat; Boko Haram had become ISIS.

It is ever so clear that Boko Haram are mad men as are ISIS; the question we must ask is: are we insane too? Are we anything but rancorously entertained by this pathetic press release?

Firstly, for all purposes, Abubakar Shekau is dead. Let no one be confused. Abubakar Shekau does not exist; the immortal title is being handled by doubles and computer graphics.

Secondly, ISIS comes from the polytheistic goddess pantheon of Egypt. Pronounced “Aset” or “Iset”, the name ISIS does not refer to “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or Syria,” or anything related, it refers to the Egyptian goddess Isis, the patron of magic and protector of the dead.

There are other funny names, usually given by governments and western intelligence organizations, seldom assumed; these include: al Qaeda, FSA, Jabhat al Nusra, Khorosan Group, ISIL, ISIS, IS, Daesh, Boko Haram. They are all pretty much all the same, typically Takfiri.

So the sobriquet that matters to us is “Takfiri,” while the policy that applies in all these is, – eradication by the fastest means possible. Extermination like we do our bugs at home, and we do not really care what the bugs are called, we focus more on getting the best bug spray and applying it judiciously. Takfiri-exterminator for all.

Who are the Takfiri? Well in summary, they are a group with links to some mischievous people, some royal and some intelligence, in Europe and the Middle East.

What is their principle? Well, though they claim “Islam,” as foundation, there is no dispute that their #1 policy is, “any means to our end,” including eating the enemy and killing the friend.

Who are Takfiri’s main victims? You guessed right: Muslims. But they do not discriminate, well except against certain Middle Eastern tribes who they receive arms and ammunition from, but those aside, they kill Muslims, Christians and others without discrimination. Takfiri Policy #1.

Takfiri policy #2: Get money; US dollars. Takfiri are well paid. They have what we all dream of… money, money, money. Unlike us where our mere transfers of a few hundred dollars raise flags at the world switches (Brussels’ SWIFT – Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) in Manhattan and the United Kingdom with our cash flow being blocked or frozen, Takfiri’s transfer and receives millions of dollars, no problem.

What changed in Nigeria’s terror war? Well perhaps nothing or perhaps a lot. As Boko Haram realized their days as a territorial insurgency were almost over, thanks to the MNJTF, the terrorists signed up with goddess Isis for one of two or both of the following reasons: to solicit Isis’ rescue from impending death; 2, to invite the United States to Nigeria. With Boko Haram “becoming” Isis, Nigeria now falls under the US axis of permitted attack. The US can bomb Nigeria now without telling us first. Boko Haram has hurriedly given the US an official invitation as a last statement before their tactical death and the possible change of government to one that promises to eliminate their currently supported existence.

That is the summary of implication f that 8 minute audio message from who? Dead man Shekau.

Dr. Peregrino Brimah.
