Atiku-Obi 2027? One Term Deal on the Table!

Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reportedly offered Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, the vice-presidential slot on a proposed joint ticket for the 2027 presidential election. As part of the arrangement, Atiku is said to have pledged to serve only one term if elected, with a commitment to support Obi’s presidential bid in 2031.

This strategic alliance is seen as an effort to merge Atiku’s northern political base with Obi’s strong support in the South-East, potentially creating a powerful opposition front. The move is generating significant debate among political observers and supporters of both camps. While some view it as a smart coalition-building effort, others—especially within Obi’s “Obidient” movement—are skeptical of him taking a secondary role.

Although both leaders have downplayed political motives in recent public appearances, the frequency of their meetings has fueled speculation about a possible collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.
